30 Hour Famine 2009

Posted by admin on February 20, 2009

CLICK HERE FOR FAMINE PERMISSION SLIP

What: 30 Hour Famine is an annual event that raises awareness for world hunger and poverty. Students fast (i.e. go without food) for 30 hours; only water and juice are allowed. In addition, students ask friends, classmates, teachers, etc. to sponsor them with a donation amount for fasting. This money will all go to World Vision, a Christian organization committed to meeting global needs.

Why:

  • Because in America, most of us have everything we ever could need or want, and we don’t know what it feels like to lack food.
  • Because it forces us to remember that people in the world go hungry every day.
  • Because we are reminded that we CAN do something about it.
  • Because we need to get out of our comfort zones and learn to serve other people.

When: April 3-4, 2009 (Friday-Saturday)

How?

  1. Download a permission slip [here], read it, and get your parents to sign it.
  2. Turn the permission slip into Eileen Yeh & get a Famine Envelope from him. Last day to turn in permission slips & get a Famine envelope is MARCH 20th!
  3. Go out and tell your friends, teachers, neighbors, etc. about why you are doing this, and ask if they would sponsor you.
  4. Collect all your sponsors’ donations before the Famine
  5. On Friday, April 3rd, you stop eating after lunch (around 12:00-1:00), and come that night to Youth Group

Meta 09: Inaugurated

Posted by admin on January 7, 2009

Friday, February 13, 2009

“Meta” is short for metamorphosis, meaning “change.” It is also the name of an annual conference sponsored by Apex Baptist Church. The theme for Meta 09 is “Inaugurated,” This year we’re excited to be focusing on the first three chapters of Genesis.

For those who don’t know, that weekend will feature Clayton King as the guest-speaker that weekend, and Carl Cartee & band are leading worship. We know Clayton & Carl well– they speak & lead at Crossroads Summer Camp every year too! (So if you’ve never been to Crossroads, here’s a good chance to “preview” it here locally).

The full cost for Meta 09 is $20 per student for a T-Shirt and going on Friday Night

The program schedule looks something like this:

  • 6:00p.m. meet at RCCC for a ride (unless you are getting your own ride)
  • 6:30p.m. arrive @ Apex Baptist Church (110 S. Salem St, Apex NC)
  • 7:00p.m. Opening Session
  • 8:30p.m. Session concluded. Please be picked up, or ride back to RCCC

Turkey Bowl 2007

Posted by admin on November 18, 2007

Saturday, November 24 2007 @ North Cary Park

10:00a.m. – 1:00p.m. (Lunch from 12:00-1:00)

This year everyone will be eating on Thanksgiving Thursday, AND the church has a potluck on Friday night. What better way to work off that extra food than to run around a bit on Saturday morning.Basic Information:

  1. This will be two-hand-touch or flag football. In other words, this is a no-contact, no tackling event. We do not want any injuries. So if you were afraid to play because you didn’t want to be tackled or injured, then this’ll make you feel better!
  2. Permission slips are required for ALL participants, including guests/visitors. No permission slip means no playing. **Click Here for Permission Slip [PDF]**
  3. Only students in grades 7th-12th are allowed to play; no college students or younger-age-siblings.
  4. We will have teams that will be fair for both genders, all ages, and all abilities. Everyone will get a chance to play!
  5. We will also have a game of Ultimate Frisbee going

The following questions might be ones that you have. Read through, and if you still have a question, then please e-mail Andy.

  • I have no interest in football at all. Why should I still come? Because football is only part of what Turkey Bowl is about. More importantly, it’s a chance to have fun together as a youth group. Although we will be playing games & in teams, the purpose is not hard competition. It’s going to be fun, even a little silly! Actually, most of the youth group doesn’t really play football either, so it’ll be fun to watch everyone run around, making the same mistakes, and laughing about it together!
  • Can I bring my friends? Yes you can! However, friends also need a permission slip to play.
  • What if I’m no good at football? That’s ok! It’s all just for the fun of it. We also will have rules & such to make it fair and easy for everyone, not just for “athletic types”.
  • I really don’t want to get hurt… is it safe? Yes it is safe! Last year we had NO injuries in Turkey Bowl. In other churches in the past, usually the worst injury might be a sprained ankle if you trip on something or accidentally land on your foot wrong. Since this is a sport, there is always the POSSIBILITY for injury (accidents can happen), but generally, we’ve rarely had sports-related injuries.
